To Maryland Carey Law students:

At the invitation of Dean Donald Tobin I am writing to offer each of you congratulations on successfully completing your law school studies during these are challenging times when our lives are being disrupted by a new virus currently without a cure.

In these days and times, some will question the wisdom and value of a law degree. I want to assure you as a Maryland Carey Law graduate and a practicing lawyer for many years that a law degree will provide you with endless and valuable opportunities.

These can include clerkships; a huge array of jobs in local, State and Federal governments; in private industry; private practice; teaching; politics; the judiciary, etc.

And a legal education is not as restricted to limited fields as are some professional degrees but provides vast opportunities for all sorts of rewarding careers across the spectrum of business and government.

Additionally, becoming a lawyer will open extensive opportunities for civic engagement and to participate at high levels of corporate, educational and governmental leadership. A lawyer’s future is only limited by his or her imagination.

The Carey School of Law is one of the finest public law schools led by one of the most accomplished law school deans in the country. You will always be proud to be amongst the distinguished graduates of the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.

Persistence and determination are hallmarks of success. Best wishes for future success to each one of you.
